Summer 2013 Public Policy Internships

Now accepting applications for Alliance Summer internships.

An internship with the Alliance is an opportunity to expand your horizons, on issues — like social justice, income inequality, health care access, and immigration — that impact millions. Interns will have the chance to work on important, tangible public policy products that will have immediate impacts.

The Alliance seeks candidates with passion and pride in their abilities, and who yearn to make a difference. We will work closely with you to develop your skill set, and will give you the chance to take the theoretical policy frameworks you are learning in class and apply them to a real setting, on a national stage.

We have several unique opportunities to work on social justice policy projects, including our annual Job Gap Report.

About the Alliance: The Alliance for a Just Society is a national organization that provides public policy support, training, and research to member community organizations throughout the country. The Alliance supports low- to moderate-income grassroots activists in their fight for social and economic justice. See www.allianceforajustsociety.org for more information.

Internship Description: Public policy internships provide an opportunity to influence public policy on the state and national levels. Interns may be asked to work on public policy position pieces, published reports, talking points, press releases, fact sheets and flyers, surveys and research protocols, and national policy research papers. Interns also work with local grassroots organizers, and play a role in campaign development, outreach, education, and training.

Applicants should be recent, current, or incoming students in a field related to public policy. Additional requirements include a commitment to economic and social justice and strong writing, interpersonal, and research skills. Communications, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and community organizing experience also would be relevant.

How to Apply: Interns will work out of the Alliance headquarters in Columbia City, Seattle. The internships, which are volunteer positions, may be full- or part-time, for a minimum of 10 weeks. The Alliance will work with your school to ensure that you receive academic credit.

Email a resume, short writing sample, list of references, and cover letter describing your interest in the position and any related experience to the Alliance for a Just Society, c/o Ben Henry, at ben@allianceforajustsociety.org.
