We’ve all heard the stories of folks unable to make ends meet. Today, we shared with legislators the data that backs that up.
In partnership with the Washington Community Action Network, the Alliance shared our Job Gap Report Washington state findings before a panel of state legislators during a House Labor & Workforce Development Committee work session.
Our message? We are in the midst of a living wage crisis — our data empirically shows that most jobs don’t pay living wages. Between going without health insurance or taking on two or three jobs, people are confronting impossible choices. Washington must hold the line and protect the wage floor that already exists, and support legislation that addresses wage theft. We must also bolster programs that help working families make ends meet — the kitchen table math needs to add up somehow.
